First Line Friday

First Line Friday | Week 34 | Hurricane Season by Lauren K Denton

It’s First Line Friday, which means it’s time to open the book nearest you and share the first line. Today I’m sharing from Hurricane Season by Lauren K Denton, which releases on 3 April:

She usually stayed in bed until at least six, but this morning she was restless, like animals get when the barometric pressure drops before a storm.

About Hurricane Season

Betsy and Ty Franklin, owners of Franklin Dairy Farm in southern Alabama, have long since buried their desire for children of their own. While Ty manages their herd of dairy cows, Betsy busies herself with the farm’s day-to-day operations and tries to forget her dream of motherhood. But when her free-spirited sister, Jenna, drops off her two young daughters for “just two weeks,” Betsy’s carefully constructed wall of self-protection begins to crumble.

As the two weeks stretch deeper into the Alabama summer, Betsy and Ty learn to navigate the new additions in their world—and revel in the laughter that now fills their home. Meanwhile, record temperatures promise to usher in the most active hurricane season in decades.

Attending an art retreat four hundred miles away, Jenna is fighting her own battles. She finally has time and energy to focus on her photography, a lifelong ambition. But she wonders how her rediscovered passion can fit in with the life she’s made back home as a single mom.

When Hurricane Ingrid aims a steady eye at the Alabama coast, Jenna must make a decision that will change her family’s future, even as Betsy and Ty try to protect their beloved farm and their hearts. Hurricane Season is the story of one family’s unconventional journey to healing—and the relationships that must be mended along the way.

For most New Zealanders the name ‘Edmonds’ is associated with reliable ingredients that are ‘sure to rise’

… no prizes for guessing what was my closest book today 🙂 Edmonds Food for Flatters

Opening the door was the hardest part. Not that she expected to find it locked, because no one out here in this part of Texas ever locked anything. The Countess and the Cowboy by Kathleen Y’Barbo from the Seven Brides for Seven Texas Rangers Romance Collection

Happy Friday and Happy Reading! 🙂

  3. The book I’m featuring on my blog this week is Love on the Mend by Karen Witemeyer. I love all the books I’ve read of hers. Here, I will share the first line of chapter 17 from the book I’m currently reading, The Social Tutor by Sally Britton. “Thomas waited for her arrival, this time on Christine’s side of the brook, his breath turning to fog in the cold air.” Wishing you a wonderful weekend.

  4. Cool first line. I will have to check this book out. My TBR pile has become a 🧗‍♀️.

I’m sharing the first two lines from A Most Noble Heir by Susan Anne Mason on my blog today. Here, I will post the first line from the novel I’m currently reading, Beneath the Surface by Lynn H. Blackburn.

“Homicide investigator Ryan Parker flashed a thumbs-up to his dive buddy and fellow homicide investigator, Gabe Chavez.”

Let me tell you, that thumbs-up quickly becomes a thumbs-down!!! This book is really gripping. I can’t figure it out!!! 😄 Happy Friday.

We will not discuss the size of my to-read pile … especially not on a First Line Friday post. I’m sure my pile has ballooned since I joined in, and that Lynn Blackburn novel sounds great! Thanks for sharing.

    Happy Friday!
My FLF is from a book I just finished reading last night. It’s With You Always by Jody Hedlund.
“Elise Neumann stared out the cracked third-story window to the muddy street below, watching the omnibuses and carriages slog their way through the muck.”
Hope you have a wonderful weekend! 🙂

  6. Becky Smith says:

Happy Friday! My first line is from Bridgette by Patricia PacJac Carroll:

“Bridgette, get up. The sun and the rest of us have been working for three hours.”

  7. Sophie says:

    Happy Friday!
My first lines are “Poppy!” Jamie came rushing out of the office and into the ktichen. The grin on his face made my heart flutter, just like it always did, which meant I’d been a mess of flutters since the day I met him five years ago.
It’s from The Birthday List by Devney Perry
    Have a great weekend!

Sounds like an interesting read. I’m sharing from Mary Connealy’s Now and Forever on my blog today, but here are the first lines of another second in series book with a heroine that loves tending her sheep, Beloved Hope by Tracie Peterson:

    Oregon City, Oregon
    May 1850

“You can’t be serious.” Hope Flanagan looked at the man who sat opposite her at her sister and brother-in-law’s kitchen table. “You expect me to testify at the Cayuse trial.”

    Happy Friday!

We’ve had a couple of tropical cyclones recently, and that’s as close as I want to get to a real hurricane. I much prefer the fictional version. Have a great weekend!
